Recently I read that Washington has the fourth largest in-migration in the country. I am not surprised as (the recent bad climate aside) this state is a wonderful place to live. But who is moving here?
In his report for WA Association of Realtors Spring Conference, Michael Louis of Michael Louis Associates, a research and public affairs consultant the state where most of the migration is coming from is by far California, followed by Oregon as a significant second source. The third most newcomers are from Texas with Florida, Arizona and Idaho following not too far behind. Interesting to me is that there is so much migration from sunshine states! About half of these in-migrants are between the ages of 20 to 39, the rest roughly 25% under 20 and 25% 40 and over. For the entire state just over 40% have at least a Bachelors Degree, for the Puget Sound area that number is higher than 50%.
